About-LX Hi! I’m Lauren Cross — a multilayered creative in Southern California. Clean, colourful design makes me happy, and I’m a sucker for stripes and wordplay. I believe in the power of connection and don’t shy away from uncomfortable topics of conversation. I like gently breaking down barriers, whether they’re visual, emotional, or both!

I create whimsical and elegant graphics for creative individuals and small businesses.

I’ve been the general graphic and web designer for an educational non-profit; wielded my page layout skills to design attractive bilingual posters for a boutique hotel and restaurant in Southern Spain; created slideshows for a PGA golfer’s charity foundation; and may have had a little too much fun interpreting “British Punk” as inspiration for a comedy podcast’s logo…

Other work includes: designing logos, avatars, and graphics for print and web; copywriting MailChimp campaigns; and customizing WordPress to create blogs and websites.  I also teach clients how to use social media to promote their brand.

I write about pregnancy loss, infertility, and parenting after reproductive trauma.

In 2014, I was chosen as a contributing author in Three Minus One (She Writes Press), an anthology of memoirs accompanying the film Return to Zero, starring Minnie Driver and Alfred Molina. I’ve had articles on miscarriage, grief, and parenting after infertility published on Seleni, The Daily Parent, and PVED.

I am currently writing a memoir about my long journey to motherhood, and have been interviewed about my experience by two Ph.D candidates and for the Beat Infertility podcast.

I’ve also written for two New York art magazines and edited educational materials.

Prior to 2013, I was a contributing writer for two new York magazines: I interviewed artists Neilah Meyers and Lily Ludlow for Tokion; and reviewed boutiques and bars for Paper. I also proofread web content and early childhood education teaching materials for Panwapa.com; and translated content for a bilingual online cultural guide to Andalusia, Spain.

I like side projects…

In 2015, I co-founded Rainbows & Unicorns, a community blog about parenting after reproductive trauma, and its sister peer-led online support group. I designed the Rainbows & Unicorns brand, logo, graphics, and website. I manage the website and actively admin the Facebook support group which includes members from around the world. I am a regular contributing writer for the community blog, and am one of the editors for submissions we receive.

I also have a dog blog at Shyhound.com, which is an experiment in shameless anthropomorphism…

More about me…

I am a British-American writer, artist, and graphic designer in San Diego, California. I was born and educated in the U.K., raised in Spain, and have lived in the U.S. on and off my whole life. I feel equally at home in all three countries, but am a foreigner wherever I go. I still sound very British (but, like, totally do a mean Valley Girl accent) and speak fluent Spanish and conversational French.

When I’m not pushing pixels, you can find me goofing around with friends and family, reading, writing, playing music, taking my dog to the beach, and always eating something delicious. A perfect day would include all of these things.
